Ukrainian Missile Attack Kills Russian General
A Russian general, Sergei Goryachev (52) was reportedly killed by a Ukrainian missile when Kyiv was intensively carrying out counterattacks in recent times.
Goryachev is chief of staff for Russia's 35th Combined Arms Army.
Launch cnnindonesia.com, Russia's war correspondent, Voenkor Kotenok, on Monday (6/12/2023) reported that Goryachev died "as a result of an enemy missile attack" in the Donetsk region, south of the village of Velikaya Novoselka.
Goryachev himself graduated from the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School in 1994. He previously served in Transnistria and Tajikistan.
After Russia launched its invasion, he became commander of the 5th separate tank brigade.
He then rose to the rank of deputy commander of the 35th Combined Arms Army and his last title was chief of staff of the force.
Goryachev's own death has not been confirmed by the Russian Defense Ministry.
Since the invasion took place in February 2022, at least four Russian military generals have reportedly been killed.
The anti-Putin news outlet Mediazone says at least four Russian generals, 176 lieutenant colonels and 58 colonels have been killed since the invasion.
Russian military officials who died on the battlefield included Major General Kanamat Botashev, Major General Vladimir Frolov, Major General Roman Kutuzov, and Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky.
News of Goryachev's death emerged days after Ukraine launched a counteroffensive to retake Russian-occupied territory.
According to Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malia, Kyiv has successfully captured seven villages, including Lobkovo, Levadne, Novodarovka, Neskuchne, Storozhevoy, Makarivka and Blahodatne since last week.
